GPA Co-ordinates Medical Evacuation

Gibraltar Port Authority Co-ordinates Medical Evacuation from cruise ship COSTA MEDITERRANEA.

The Gibraltar Port Authority (GPA) was contacted by the cruise liner COSTA MEDITERRANEA on the morning of the 2 October at approximately 1100hrs. The vessel was transiting the area and a passenger on board had encountered a medical complication.

As a result the vessel decided to approach Gibraltar in order to disembark a passenger who had been diagnosed with a serious medical condition. The GPA immediately liaised with the GHA, paramedics and the Port Medical officer who were deployed to carry out a medical evacuation. The operation, involving GPA Port Launch ‘General Elliot’ and paramedics led to the passenger being disembarked at sea for onward transfer to a waiting ambulance.
